Sjón is an acclaimed icelandic author and screenwriter who has collaborated with Robert Eggers on multiple projects, including Werwulf, which won’t be the only werewolf movie he has written. He also worked on ‘The Wolf Will Tear Your Immaculate Hands’, an upcoming gothic horror film set in 1860s, Pacific Northwest. He co-wrote it with Nathalie Álvarez Mesén. Nathalie not only writes, but also directs, it will mark the 12th feature length werewolf movie by a female director.
The story will center around two daughters (Bronte Carmichael and Lily LaTorre), after the death of their mother, the father (Alexander Skarsgård) hires a Native American governess (Darla Contois) educated in a Christian mission school to teach Christian values to his daughters. The widower gets obsessed with hunting wolves and the tension grows as he forces his eldest daughter into marriage.
“Isabel is forced into an arranged marriage. Desolate and angry, she begins to unearth a wilderness that roars within her, slowly realizing that she has more in common with the wolves in the forest than with the rest of her new household.”
The film was shot in Northern Ireland, supported by multiple international partners and producers, they gave Nathalie freedom to her creative ambition with a substantial budget. She shared that the theme of the movie is “how to break free from patriarchal structures and if you can decolonize your own body, if not for yourself, for the sake of future generations.”
Originally it was planned to release on May, 2026, but as of right now there has been no update on the release date.
